High winds, power outages reported in Southwest Georgia


More than 1,000 customers were reported without power across Southwest Georgia Friday night as strong gusty winds are blamed on downed power lines.

Officials confirmed trees were down in Dougherty and Worth counties. Drivers are asked to use caution if they see debris on the road.

WALB Weather Team Meteorologist Ryan Beesley said this is non-thunderstorm wind damage.

The Albany Fire Department, Public works crews, And utility workers responded to dozens of calls about trees and wires down and minor utility fires.

In the 2400 block of Clark, wind knocked a utility pole down. Wires were seen lying across the road. A tree on power lines was also spotted on Lily Pond Road.

Albany Water Gas and Light and Mitchell EMC crews were also out working to restore electricity.
