Gang violence waging in south Albany

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A south Albany family is on edge after someone opened fire on their home for the second time this week. It happened around 11pm on 2500 block of south Washington Street.

Cynthia Perkins and her daughter thought they were going to have a normal night at home, it just was days ago when they had to call 911 after their house was targeted during a shooting, but little did they know, they would have to make that call one more time.

"I was in there getting my hair done and we heard gunshots and one of my daughters was sitting outside on the porch, she has seen someone in the alley," Perkins said. "And the only thing she seen was the fire from off the gun."

That's when the her daughter ran inside and contacted police, she said 5 shots were fired with one hitting the tail end of her car. But it's not the damage to the family's SUV that has them on edge but having children inside the home, two 5-year-olds, a 4-year-old and a new born baby. She says the bullet could have hit any of them.

"They heard it and they're scared, so we had to get them and put them on the floor. I don't know I just wish it would stop," Perkins said.

Perkins' says if anyone saw anything they should report it because it could save someone's life.

"The violence needs to stop, really does."

The Albany Police gang unit has stepped up patrols in South Albany neighborhoods following five other suspected gang shootings.

Gang unit officers have detained at least five suspected gang members on other charges, but no one has been arrested for the shootings.
