Affordable Health Care Act deadline looms

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The deadline to sign up for health insurance under Obamacare is just four days away and the interest in South Georgia is picking up.

April Bush with Primary Care of Southwest Georgia in Blakely is a trained enrollment specialist. She says she has assisted approximately 200 people since open enrollment started.

She says the high premiums have scared many people away. Southwest Georgia has the second highest premiums in the country due to a lack of health care and insurance competition.

Bush says many people who think they qualify for subsidies are surprised to find out they don't.

"People don't realize that in Georgia , because we did not expand the medicaid program, that people with no income actually don't qualify for the subsidies," Bush said. "So a lot of people don't realize that you actually have to make a minimum income in order to qualify to receive the subsidies.

The Obama Administration announced Thursday they reached their revised goal of enrolling 6-million Americans by the deadline.
