WORTH CO., GA (WALB) -

A Worth County teenager is fighting for his life, battling Muscular Dystrophy. As he gets ready for prom his family is asking for help so he can accomplish other goals.

Louis Herrin is like many other 17 year-olds, he loves cars and can't wait for prom and to graduate from high school.

But Louis is losing his battle with Muscular Dystrophy.

"Muscular Dystrophy is a life threatening disease and you have to take every day as it comes. Because every day is never the same. Every day is different. Some days he'll be up all day and then other days he's up for a few minutes and has to go back to bed," said his mother, Margaret Mainor.

Louis was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy when he was just 16 months-old.

He began spending much of his time in a wheelchair when he was 10 and over time the disease has progressed and gotten much worse.

"I never thought we'd make it this far. I just really, this has been the strongest part," said Mainor.

But Louis isn't letting his health get him down, he's got a date to prom this weekend.

"We went and got his tuxedo yesterday so, we're really excited," said Mainor.

Louis is also excited to graduate from Worth County High School May 31st.

"It's awesome. And a big accomplishment," said Louis.

Now family members are raising money to help Louis finish some of his other dreams.

He wants to go with his senior class to Panama City and on a hunting trip. "I've always wanted to go when I was a kid and be able to hunt a deer and eat it."

Louis believes in living life to the fullest and enjoying as many memories as he can.

He also wants to go to college, so his mother is looking at various online options right now.

Some of the money they're raising is being set aside for his funeral. If you're interested in helping Louis click on the link below.
