ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Law enforcers were back out on Albany and Dougherty County streets serving warrants Thursday.

Some of the dozens of suspects they're looking for in an operation include accused gang members suspected in a rash of shootings and attacks this week.

Albany Police gang unit officers say a fight between the rattlers and the bloods Sunday night at an Albany club led to a shooting. And that led to several more retaliation shootings this week.

City leaders and the community were concerned when the Luke family's home on South Madison Street was hit by nearly a half dozen bullets Tuesday morning. Miraculously she and her three kids inside were not hit as the bullets went through doors, windows, and walls.

"This [is like] back in the old days of Jessie James," said City Commissioner Jon Howard, "that ride by shooting, shooting neighbors, shooting houses."

Gang Unit officers say this was one of at least five shootings and Molotov cocktail attacks Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday believed to be gang retaliation after Sunday's gang fight and shooting at Club Vybe on Flint Avenue.

"Some gate crashers came in, and the two rival gangs had an altercation there, and led to a shooting," said Lt. Alonzo Ingram.

Several homes in South Albany were hit by bullets or Molotov cocktails. Two people were also shot. Police have worked since the event to stop the violence.

"We've been activated, working 24-7 now to address these issues," said Ingram. "The gang unit along with investigators are out now patrolling the areas and also conducting investigations."

Thursday, 26 arrests had been made. 5 pounds of marijuana and an amount of extacy were confiscated, along with a handgun. City leaders and police are asking people to get involved cleaning up their streets.

"This community has to stand up and say we are not going to tolerate it," said Howard. "And if we see an incident happen we are going to call the Police."

Gang unit officers say if you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood, call 431-2100 and report it, and help them put down these gang attacks.
