TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

It's been a big week for the Toledo Police Department, as more of their K-9 crime fighters will receive free protective vests.

On Wednesday, Toledo police announced two of their companions would receive bullet and stab-protective vests, thanks to generous donations through the organization, Vested Interest in K-9s.

The TPD expects three more custom-fit vests within the next few months. Nero, Luke and Yuma will join Joker and Damon getting their vests in 14-15 weeks.

Before this hefty donation, all the dogs performed the dangerous job without protection. The money was raised through a nationwide Groupon event totaling more than $350,000.
