Elvis is coming to town...

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Elvis is in the building! At least he will be this Saturday night in Valdosta.  It's part of an event to benefit the Alzheimer's Caretaker Time Out organization in Valdosta.

On Saturday, Alzheimer's caregivers in Valdosta will have an opportunity to take a break from the daily demands of caring for their loved one suffering from Alzheimer's and enjoy some music from none other than the king of Rock N' Roll himself.

"Elvis. I call him Elvis because that's who he's representing here. He is only 19, but he won first place at Graceland this past Summer. He's Phenomenal," said Program Coordinator Ann Walker Smith.

Alzheimer's Caregiver Time Out is a non-profit organization in Valdosta that cares for Alzheimer's patients three days a week, so the patients' families can have some time for themselves.

"We are here to be a respite care service and to give them time out. Whether it's to go to doctor's appointments, to just have some time with their other families, to go to work."

Catherine Phillips' mother has been coming to ACTO for a couple years now.

Phillips says ACTO makes it easier to manage the demands of caring for an Alzheimer's patient.   "I mean, my mother love it. And, I continue to work eight hours. It has just been a blessing to me and my family."

For Phillips, events like the one this Saturday are a big reason why caregiving is easier with ACTO.

"It just do my heart good to watch everything that goes on and how so much love is being shown to them as well as the family."

Tickets to Saturday's event can be purchased at the door Saturday night or ahead of time at Pammy Cakes, with the proceeds going to help ACTO move into a bigger building.
