Tablet computers helping Lowndes Co. Firefighters do their job

The Lowndes County Fire department is getting some new technology.
County commissioners have approved the department's request for 18 new tablet computers. The tablets will allow firefighters to better communicate with the dispatch center and will help them better plan and prepare for fires and rescues.
"With the new tablet system, they're gonna have the computer aided dispatch system access right in their trucks," explained Paige Dukes, Lowndes County Public Information Officer. "The tablet system is gonna be put in through several phases. Initially, we'll start with the dispatch information that will also aid them in reporting as well as pre-incident planning."
The tablets will cost around $24,000 and will be paid for through various county taxes.
