They say you can't teach experience.
ABAC head tennis coach Dale White is hoping his Stallions and Fillies pick up that experience before April's GCAA Championships.
Each match for both teams over the past two weeks has been cancelled due to rain, leaving the young Stallions and Fillies without as much match experience as the first year head coach would like.
"We have a lot of freshmen this year, which is going to be good for next year," he says. "But they've got to get that match experience, which they haven't had."
No reason to fear though, he says. Both teams will get plenty of play in the next two weeks.
"We've got four matches this week. We've got three next week. That's a lot of matches in a short space of time," White says.
He says that should help with the lack of experience, but also keep the team from getting restless.
"They want to play the matches, rather than be out here practicing," he says. "It's that time of year where they just want to compete all the time."
They'll get to do that in three weeks at the GCAA Championships in Tifton.
"After spring break is when we'll really start snowballing into the region tournament and the national tournament in May," he says. "The intensity is going to pick up, and hopefully, they're ready to come back after spring break a little bit refreshed and ready to go."
Both teams get back on the court in match play Wednesday when they host Middle Georgia at 2:00.
