LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

Eight cars were damaged when a live power line fell down across Bemiss Road just after 6 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Georgia Power was in the process of disconnecting some power lines near the intersection of Mulligan Road when one of the lines they had loosened snapped.

"Georgia Power was working on the power lines. At some point, they tried to start disconnecting the cable and wait for tomorrow before they were able to totally take the wire down," said Cpl. Peter Lukas, a GSP Trooper on scene.

"At some point," Lukas continued, "the wire did snap and came down across State Route 125."

Darby Buckley was driving down Bemiss when the power line hit her car, putting a baseball-sized dent in her windshield.

"When I was driving, I just saw the power cord dip down," explained Buckley. "It completely smashed my [windshield]. I thought I was gonna get really hurt, but luckily I didn't."

One person, a driver of one of the cars involved, was taken to South Georgia Medical Center with minor injuries.
