SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

The world's largest retailer will soon be opening its doors in the Sylvester.

A Walmart spokesperson said the new store under construction in the Worth County Industrial Complex is coming along on schedule. Nearly half of the employees needed to run the new Walmart have been already been hired, and could begin setting up the store as early as next month.

"Oh, I'm excited," said Jennifer Calhoun, Walmart Store Manager. "I'm seeing that they're getting everything together to where we can start hopefully...I want to say the middle part of April, getting fixtures in so that we can take possession April 28th on time."

Calhoun said the grand opening will be held June 4th and said the company still has plenty of positions to fill before then. "We've got all of the people that have to go off site into training.  Now we're looking at front end, customer service, sales floor, stocking over night, those positions are what we are in the process of interviewing for now," she said.

Calhoun said the store will have created about 100 jobs once it opens, and will generate local sales taxes that will help Sylvester grow.

To apply for any of the openings, visit the Walmart Hiring Center at 114 N. Main Street in Sylvester on Mon – Fri 8am – 6pm, or Saturday 8am – 12pm.  You can also apply online here.
