SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

A Worth County woman says scam artists tried to steal her credit card information over the phone.

Heather Simmons got an automated call Friday claiming her Master Card was deactivated.  She says she followed automated prompts until she was asked to enter her credit card number.

She hung up the phone, called her Master Card company, and learned it was a scam.

"It just kind of unnerved me because my daughter, 18, just bought a new car, just got her first checking account.  And if it'd been her, she probably would have entered it, thinking 'oh my goodness, something is gonna happen, and I'm not gonna be able to get into my checking account,'" said Heather Simmons.

Simmons says she didn't report the call to police because it came from a restricted number.

She says anyone who gets a strange phone call should hang up and call their credit card company to be safe.
