SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

A national tip hotline will now be used to solve crimes around part of Worth County.

The Sylvester Police Department is joining CrimeSTOPPERS for the first time.  The Albany Police Department welcomed the force to the hotline.

Investigators say the department accepted anonymous tips before, but say the national hotline will provide more leads and help put more criminals behind bars.

"We can't do it without [the public], and we're here to assist you," said Sgt. Kenneth Washington with Sylvester Police. "Your help is always gratefully needed, any help that the public can give, because you're there when crime takes place, we're not."

Sgt. Washington said the department joined the hotline on February 24th.  He said the force hasn't received many tips yet, but is hopeful the public will begin calling.

He said all calls are anonymous and can even lead to a cash reward if tips help lead to an arrest. If you have any information that can help solve a crime, call CrimeSTOPPERS at (229)436-TIPS.
