GBI investigating deadly Tifton shooting

TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

GBI agents are working the scene of a deadly shooting in Tifton.

Police were called to the 700 block of East 6th Street late Sunday. A person who identified himself as the victim's grandson, Montreal Downs, said it happened around 10pm. He was at home with his family when two men approached their property and knocked on their front door, his aunt opened it and that's when the men made their way in.

They demanded money from Montreal's aunt and took his grandfather's gun, shooting and killing, 62 year-old Sylvester Downs Sr. The two men then ran out the home.

Family members say although they didn't see the intruders faces they recall seeing both men dressed in all black with one wearing a skull mask. Downs' daughter says she can't believe someone would do this to their father especially with his birthday upcoming birthday, he would have been 63 years-old. The Downs family says they are looking for justice.

Authorities have not commented on the details of the investigation but say they have spoken to several witnesses.
