Governor Deal visits with faith-based leaders

Governor Nathan Deal Governor Nathan Deal

Governor Nathan Deal was in Albany visiting with members at Mount Zion Baptist Church today.

Deal talked about the importance of criminal justice reform. He's working with churches throughout the state to help get inmates back on their feet once they're out of prison. He's hoping this program and partnership with churches and faith-based organizations will keep newly released inmates off the streets and working.

"To try to find appropriate housing for them, so that they don't go back into the same environment from which they came into the first place and then more importantly even than that is to make sure we find jobs for them," said Governor Nathan Deal.

Deal says in July, the new Department of Corrections Assistant Commissioner will work with inmates to help them get their GEDs while they are still in prison.
