Church burglars take nothing

Chaplain Rodney Stamey Chaplain Rodney Stamey

Dougherty County Police are investigating after an Albany Church was burglarized over the weekend. Now the church Pastor is looking into new security measures.

Church leaders at Radium Springs Baptist Church were shocked when they arrived Saturday to find shattered glass outside the church office.

"When they came in the window in the door going into the office was shattered, glass all over the place," said Rodney Stamey.

Chaplain Rodney Stamey says they believe the burglars came in through this secluded alley, behind the church, and then climbed through this nursery window. After breaking into the nursery, they busted out this church office window, but they left with nothing.

"There's televisions scattered throughout the church, there's a lot to steal if you want to steal but they took nothing," said Stamey.

Stamey assumes whoever broke in was after money.

"I don't know whether this is young people, kids, I have no idea," said Stamey.

The nursery window has been boarded up, and now they're looking at ways to improve security around the church grounds.

"We were talking this morning about new doors and maybe securing it more so this way," said Stamey.

Stamey says it's disturbing that someone would burglarize a church.

"To come into a church looking for something to take out of it bothers me that they would do this, it really does, said Stamey.

They're hoping whoever did this will come forward. Anyone with information should contact the Dougherty County Police.
