Good turnout expected for Albany Pink walk

Karen Smith Karen Smith
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Hundreds of folks will help paint Albany pink this weekend to raise money for breast cancer.

Albany Motorcars and BMW of Albany are hosting the 2nd annual Albany Pink walk.

The 3-mile trek will take participants around the Flint Riverquaruim, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and Albany State University.

Organizers say more than 500 people have already signed up, exceeding their expectations.

"It's just amazing how many people have come up to bat if you will.  It's like every day we get so many more participants and somebody wants to volunteer. Somebody wants to give something," said Karen Smith, a sales manager for BMW of Albany.

Registration begins Saturday, March 22 at 8am with an opening ceremony around 10am. Organizers are asking participants to wear pink.

Smith says they've already raised $18,000. All the proceeds will benefit patients at the Carlton Breast Center.
