NASHVILLE, GA (WALB) -

A parent of a Nashville Middle School student spoke out in support of the school's former baseball coach on Thursday.

Jordan Stokes recently stepped down as coach when parents of the baseball players began to voice their concerns after learning that the coach may have physically and verbally mistreated the players during practices.

Stokes is still employed as the middle school P. E. teacher, but Amber Gilbert says this doesn't bother her.

"He's been there for two years, this is the first time anybody's said anything about it," Gilbert said. "If there was somethin' goin' on that was so wrong, I believe it would've come up a long time ago...I don't believe that coach Stokes would harm any kid in any way. He's been my son's coach for two years; my son does three or four different sports."

In a written statement Berrien County School Board chairman Henry Ford issued a statement that the situation has been handled appropriately and no other action will be taken.
