FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) -

A couple tied to a multi-state crime spree strikes a Fitzgerald Walmart early May 9th. One of them is caught on camera stealing thousands of dollars of merchandise.

Police already have Altonio Byars in custody, caught in Eastman, Georgia after trying to steal from another Walmart there over the weekend.

Police are now asking for public assistance to catch the woman caught on security footage leisurely walking into the Fitzgerald Walmart on March 9th around 4 in the morning.

Security cameras follow the woman to the technology department of the store where she's seen scoping out a cell phone display before she dips behind the counter and uses a punch to break the case.

After making sure no one is around, she looted $16,000 worth of cell phones. She then heads straight for the front door, unnoticed before climbing into a silver minivan, where police believe Byars was waiting for the getaway.

Police say this may not be the only Walmart they've stolen from. Byars was arrested over the weekend in Dodge County, caught trying to steal from another Walmart in Eastman.

Before that, Detective Bishop says he has been tied to several other burglaries, across Georgia, Kentucky and Florida.

"We're just at the beginning of this investigation," said Detective Chad Bishop, Fitzgerald Police. "We just know that he's wanted for felony shopliftings."

And he wasn't alone. Police believe the woman seen in the Fitzgerald Walmart footage has helped him steal from several other locations and that they both could be involved in a larger ring.

"In Eastman she was in the vehicle and he was the only one inside," said Detective Bishop. "In each locations they were using different vehicles. So we think they may be renting vehicles. "

That's why they say they need your help to identify her and help catch her before she strikes again.

Police say the woman at large may be armed and dangerous.

If she looks familiar, you're asked to call Fitzgerald police at 229-426-5000.
