SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

The Sylvester Police Department wants to warn citizens of a scam they have seen circulating in the area.

Detectives say the crooks are trying to make people think they have a check waiting from Woodforest National Bank.

The document is really a fake money order that bears the number 14565777.   It also shows the same routing number. The Account number is 113008465.

One resident recently received a check for $945.00, which is listed as a money order. The scammers ask you to deposit the check into your bank account and send them a processing fee.

Officials say if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. "Just believe in the fact that you don't get anything free, there's nothing free. If you have some concern or suspicion about it call your local police department and turn the document over to them," said SGT Kenneth Washington with the Sylvester Police Department.

If you receive this scam in the mail, alert police.
