AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

A south Georgialibrary is forced to make cuts to their operation.

The LakeBlackshear Regional Library in Americus shortens the library hours and laidsome employees off. It's because the city of Americus will only give thelibrary $50,000 for funding. That's down from $82,000. The city made thedecision to cut funding on January 1, 2014.

"We have hadsome people concerned about the fact we will no longer be open on Saturday'sand that's actually a big concern for us as well. But with a skeletal staff andone full time person and two part time people it would mean those people had towork every single Saturday.

The library inAmericus is the regional headquarters for a four county system.

The new hours are: Monday-10am-8pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday-10am-6pm, Friday 10am-4pm. The library will be closed on Saturday and Sunday. The new hours take effect April 1.
