ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The InternalRevenue Service says tax scams are increasing in Georgia and becoming moresophisticated.

The scamthey're seeing most this tax season is done by telephone.   Con artistsmake their calls appear on your caller ID as if they're coming from the IRS.

They say youowe money and will be arrested if you don't pay immediately. "This is a scam. The Internal Revenue Service does not text you, email you, or call youout of the blue stating that you owe money on a debt that you know you don'towe," said Mark Green, I.R.S. Media Relations.

The IRS saysthis will be a record breaking year with an expected four and a half millionreturns expected to be filed in Georgia.

They don't wantit to set records for the number of scam victims.

If you get a suspicious call from the IRS,hang up and call the real IRS at 800-829-1040.
