Passengers have food options at Airport

Yvette Aehle, Airport Director Yvette Aehle, Airport Director
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Passengers at Southwest Regional Airport will soon have a place to snack while waiting on their flights.

The Aviation Commission approved a contract with Buffalo Rock to provide vending machines that include fresh food items such as sandwiches once the concession space is ready.  The airport director says the new terminal really can't support a full-service restaurant.

"We just don't have the amount of foot traffic that it requires someone to have put in a lot of money, a lot of capital improvement and not have the foot traffic that they needed," said Yvette Aehle.

The deal with Buffalo Rock is for one year. Airport officials plan to renegotiate after that once they see how much money is coming in. The concession area will be furnished and ready for business later this year.
