ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County leaders are clearing the path for a new store to open in part of the county.

Monday, commissioners unanimously approved a re-zoning request to allow a Dollar General store to open near Clark Ave. and Hill Road.

Teramore Development, Inc., will now need to get building permits and plans approved to transform the 1.6  acre lot.  Leaders say the project will generate revenue and spark growth.

"Many times when businesses open up you see that with competitors even, one likes to be across from the other one," said Commissioner Lamar Hudgins.  "So hopefully that will attract more business because you've got more traffic and the possibility of more business."

Hudgins said he doesn't know when work will begin on the new store. He said Dollar General operates several stores in Dougherty County and is happy to see more shops move in.
