Man dies after rural Worth wreck

WORTH CO., GA (WALB) -

The GSP is investigating a weekend wreck in Worth County, at the intersection of Isabella-Terrell Rd. and Georgia Hwy 33.

73-year-old Howard Smith was driving a Buick going west on Isabella-Terrell Road, and pulled out in front of a semi truck going south on Georgia 33.

Smith died of his injuries Tuesday night at Phoebe Putney SICU.

The Buick spun and hit another car and landed in a ditch. The passenger,  77-year-old Louise Fletcher, was air lifted to the Medical Center of Georgia in Macon.

The driver of the semi was not injured. So far no charges have been filed, and it is under investigation.

    A Grady County project that has been in the works since 2007 is now one step closer to being complete. The conceptual plan for the proposed aquatic center project was recently approved by the Grady County Board of Commissioners.  The plan features an eight lane swimming pool, splash pad, and fenced in play area.

    Grady County deputies are cracking down on illegal dumping. If you have big items that you need to get rid of such as a couch or a mattress, you need to be careful where you dump it, because you could face fines up to $700 dollars. "That's exactly right, it's an ugly site," said Sheriff Harry Young. Young he's had enough of the illegal dumping going on in Grady County. Encouraging his deputies to now hand out tickets instead of warnings.
