Petersburg man charged in Friday morning motel homicide

PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) -

A 29 year old man is now charged in the death of 51 year old man in Petersburg.

Shortly before 8:30 a.m. Friday Police responded to a call at the Knights Inn located at 622 E. Wythe Street regarding a man with a self inflicted gunshot wound. Emergency crews airlifted Edward Jones to VCU Medical Center where he later died.

Forensic evidence negated the initial cause of injury and Petersburg detectives developed a case for murder including a suspect. Around 5:00 p.m. Friday police arrested Dominic Greenwood. Greenwood is charged with first degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Neither the victim or the suspect were registered hotel guests.
