Community leader gets roasted

An Albany educator and musician was the butt of some good-natured jokes Friday night to help Albany Technical College.

Dr. T. Marshall Jones was the guest of honor at the Albany Tech Foundation's annual roast to raise scholarship money for ATC students.

Dr. Jones told us before the roast, he was ready for the barbs. "We're just about helping young people to get a good start in life and to do well in life and to make a contribution to our society," he said.

Albany Tech President Dr. Anthony Parker appreciated his willingness to help students. "He graciously allowed us to use his name and allowed some of his friends to poke a little fun at him and raise some money for our college," said Parker.

Dr. Jones was the chair of the Albany State University Music and Fine Arts department where he taught music and directed bands for decades.

He remains active in the community and still serves on the Georgia Council for the Arts.
