Autry Prison guards arrested, fired in state investigation of abuse

MITCHELL CO., GA (WALB) -

Five guards at Mitchell County's Autry State Prison have been arrested and fired from their positions as part of a Department of Corrections investigation at the facility.

Eddie King, Darius Knight, Deltonio Scott, Kevin Davis, and Steven Alexander were all arrested in an investigation of abuse, which the state is investigating.

Charges against the men range from battery, to violation of oath of office, to tampering with evidence, to simple battery.

The Department of Corrections also said the abuse involved more than one inmate.

In a statement, Georgia Department of Corrections spokesperson Gwendolyn Hogan said:

The Department has learned of allegations of inmate abuse at Autry State Prison. The Department takes allegations such as inmate abuse very seriously. Due to these claims, the Department sent Internal Affairs to investigate. It is believed that the abuse did occur, therefore these officers were terminated and referred for prosecution.
