MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

Some south Georgia firefighter received some important HAZMAT training Wednesday in Moultrie.

Firefighters with Moultrie, Lee County, Thomasville, and Thomas County fire departments learned about various chemicals they may encounter and how to properly deal with them.

Moultrie Fire has one of the largest Hazardous Response Units in the area and the course offers training with various equipment used in HAZMAT response.

"Really, what we tried to do this year is get some hands on training on the equipment that we haven't previously done. We had favorable reviews. This is the first time we've actually done that," said Lt. Kenny Humphrey of the  Moultrie Fire Dept.

Firefighters got the chance to put on HAZMAT suits for down range training on the Spence Field course.
