As the citizens of Crisp County struggle with the death of their beloved sheriff Donnie Haralson, they are at least afforded comfort in knowing that their county is in good hands.

Longtime and loyal Chief Deputy Billy Hancock was sworn in as sheriff yesterday. Hancock was the right hand man for the late Haralson and made sure the Sheriff's office ran smoothly in Sheriff Haralson's absence.

In taking the oath of office, Sheriff Hancock promised to maintain the high level of service the citizens have grown to expect.

A special election will be held later this year to fill the sheriff's job, but until then Sheriff Billy Hancock will carry on the legacy of a man who will never be forgotten.
