Work about to restart on delayed road project

LEE CO., GA (WALB) -

Work is about to restart on a delayed road project that Lee County leaders hope will lead to new development.

Tuesday night Lee County Commissioners approved a solution.  There's a holding pond on property at the northwest corner of this project.

They'll expand that pond to hold more runoff, and then use the dirt they dig out to build the road.  County leaders hope to restart work late this week or early next week and have the road paved and ready for traffic by the end of May.

County leaders say there are commercial developers interested in building along the new road, and they hope to get tenants in the area soon after the project is finished. The Dougherty County side of the Westover Extension is still several years away.  It would connect Westover Boulevard to Ledo Road under the Albany bypass.
