Furlough days could end for Dougherty County School employees
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Monday night the Dougherty County School Board approved the calendar for the 2014-2015 school year, and it does not include any furlough days for employees. That decision is tentative. It could change if the system doesn't get as much money from the state as anticipated. Board member Darrell Ealum says when he was elected four years, the number of furlough days was ten. It's down to four this year, and he's looking forward to reducing it to zero.
"From my perspective to get a chance to vote on a calendar, I think it's awesome," said Darrel Ealum, boarm member.
It will cost the system an additional 2 million dollars to pay employees for those four days that they're forced to take off this school year.
State leaders promise more money for local school systems next year, but the lawmakers have not approved the budget yet.
