Fitzgerald police are looking for Robert Haynes, Junior about a shooting last night that wounded an innocent 14-year old girl. Police say the shooting happened following a fight among teenagers in an alley Sunday night.
People who live in the area where the shooting took place say it was a frightening experience.
A fight that led to gunshots was too close for comfort for Bill Seanor. He saw most of the action from his backyard.
"We had our back gate open because we were taking out grass clippings and things and putting them in the alley. There was a fair amount of loud noise, voices so we walked out in the alley," said Bill Seanor.
Fitzgerald Police say several witnesses heard the noise and went to the alley Sunday evening in the 500 block of Pine Street.
"During our investigation we found that somewhere in this alley here, just past that water puddle, there had been a fight earlier." said Chief Bill Smallwood.
Witnesses broke up the fight between several teens, but that wasn't the end.
"They came back around the 7 p.m. time and was arguing and started to fight again," said Chief Smallwood.
Police say after the fight started again, two men pulled up in a black vehicle and started shooting down the alley. Bill Seanor says he was almost caught up in it.
It was five or six shots in rapid succession, the kids that were running away ran straight at us down the alley, so we were pretty much in the line of fire," said Bill Seanor.
14-year old Shania Shelton was grazed by one bullet from a .380 caliber gun.
"She got a couple facial wounds, from what they think is just fragments from a bullet, said Chief Smallwood.
Neighbors say the whole situation is unsettling.
"I just like to see the community come together and try to solve the problems," said Bill Seanor.
Police say Shelton is expected to be okay and they continue their search for Robert Haynes Jr.
Fitzgerald Police Chief William Smallwood, Jr. says his department has a warrant for Aggravated Assault, with further charges pending, again Robert Haynes, Junior.
He is wanted for the shooting of 14 year old Shania Shelton last night.
