VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office is warning you to watch out for phone scams.

Over the weekend, the sheriff's some people in Lowndes County got calls claiming they failed to show up for jury duty and would go to jail if they didn't pay a fine immediately.

Investigators say that's just one of many scams you need to beware of.

"Telephone scams are becoming more and more prevalent, and a lot it's based on the ease of it being conducted along with the ability to remain anonymous. There's so many ways out there now that you can keep your anonymity just that," said Sheriff's Lt. Stryde Jones.

If you get a call you think is a scam,  notify your local law enforcement agency.
