Hancock takes sheriff's oath

Posted: Updated:
CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

Colonel Billy Hancock, Chief Deputy of the Crisp County Sheriff's Office, took command of that agency Monday afternoon in Cordele.

He was sworn in as acting sheriff, after the death of Donnie Haralson, who held the office for over 20 years.

Haralson had over two years remaining in his term, and an election will be held to elect a permanent sheriff of Crisp County, but the date has not been announced.
