ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Bond is set for two men who led Lee County deputies on a high speed chase Monday morning.

Officials say the two men who ran from deputies were trying to break in to an ex-girlfriends home. When authorities showed up, the suspects took off.

Lee County deputies responded to a home on Winding Way around 5 a.m. Monday, after getting a call about an attempted burglary.

"Two subjects were attempting to break into a back door," said Lee County Chief Deputy Lewis Harris. "Deputies were close by on the scene. They were able to observe the two suspects jump into a car."

Authorities said 42 year-old Charles Lane was behind the wheel and 35 year-old Johnnie Jackson was the passenger. They said Lane refused to pull over and took deputies on a high speed chase into Albany. They eventually stopped on East Oglethorpe Boulevard.

"They just came to a stop, they stopped themselves and bailed out and started running on foot. And the deputies bailed out of their patrol cars and chased them down," recalled Harris.

Both men were taken to the Lee County jail. Authorities quickly discovered that Jackson wasn't trying to break in to a stranger's home.

"It turns out that Johnnie Jackson, the complainant and Johnnie Jackson, they're ex-boyfriend girlfriend. And he has threatened her before with bodily harm," said Harris.

Deputies say there have been several incidents between them.

"Apparently he was over there to break in to the house to talk to the complainant or for some other unknown reason, said Harris. "So it's a very good thing that we were in the area and she called the sheriff's office and we were able to jump on it as quickly as we did or there's no telling what could of happened."

Lane and Jackson are facing several charges. Bond was set at 20-thousand dollars for Charles Lane, and he's been banned from Lee County with the exception of coming to court or talking to an attorney.

Bond for Johnnie Jackson was set at 1-thousand dollars. Both men were already on probation for previous incidents.
