APD: Officer bitten by fox

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An officer was attacked by a fox in the West Doublegate area. The officer shot and killed the animal.

APD provided this release:

Officer Richard Taylor responded to 2811 W. Doublegate in reference to a Fox chasing people in the area. He was advised that the Fox was in the drainage ditch in front of the home. 

As Officer Taylor approached the drainage ditch, the fox ran out and attacked him. Officer Taylor received a bite and scratches from the fox on his right leg.

Officer Taylor discharged his duty weapon and fired five rounds at the Fox. The fox died as a result and Officer Taylor went PPMH for treatment.

Officer Taylor was started on the series of treatment for rabies.  

Animal control and Environmental Control also responded and recovered the fox for possible rabies testing.

Officer Richard Taylor, age 33. He has been with the Albany Police Department since November 28, 2011.
