Ranger First Class Chris Carlisle, DNR Ranger First Class Chris Carlisle, DNR
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A warning from the Department of Natural Resources this weekend.

As the warmer temperatures arrive and spring approaches its important to be safe while out fishing or boating. DNR officials say a life jacket should be worn at all times. Anyone under the age of 13 should have one on. They say it's also important to pay attention to the types of fish being caught.

"Pay attention to the limits, just know what the limit of the species is that you're catching if you can't identify the fish as to what it is best rule of thumb is to turn it loose," said Ranger First Class Chris Carlisle.

Carlisle says you should never mix drinking and boating and should always have a designated driver. He also says you should pay attention to your surroundings both on and off the boat.
