BAKER CO., GA (WALB) -

The State Board of Education has upheld the firing of two Baker County teachers for leading protests through a school.

The Baker County board of education voted to terminate Sandra Jones and Mable Rogers at the end of last year after a three day hearing.

They were accused of leading a protest with their elementary students through the halls on CRCT testing day because they were upset by a personnel decision made by the board and principal.

"This is just kind of affirmation really, if you will, that they proceeded correctly, and they made the correct decision that ultimately will improve the educational experience of children in Baker County," said School Board Attorney Tommy Coleman.

The teachers could appeal the ruling to superior court.

The Georgia Professional Standards Commission will also review the case to see if the teacher's licenses should be suspended or revoked.
