A benefit concert will get underway Saturday at the state theatre in downtown Albany to help Betty Rehberg battle ovarian cancer.

Friends describe Rehberg as a history enthusiast, Albany native and caregiver to the people in her community.  She's well-known in the area for the creating the popular web pages "Vintage Albany" and "Vintage Georgia," a site that displays the transformation of Albany through the years.

Martha Bowden, friend and coordinator of the fundraiser says it's Rehberg's positive outlook that keeps her going. She feels sometimes those who are sick can fall into depression but that's not Rehberg.

"She's such a good heart, she doesn't understand why somebody like her would be getting some assistance from people and I told her this is about the love. I said, you know, we all have God's love and we just need to spread it and that's what we're doing for you," Bowden said.

"Even though we look around us and it looks like our world is falling apart," Dwyane Bowden said. "God says just focus on me and think about loving each'll be fine."

Rehberg has volunteered with Martha Bowden on several occasions in the non-profit organization, Moving Mountains, where she helps those who suffer from homelessness. She has also participated in a variety of community efforts, one of the most recent was a petition to help save the historic broad avenue bridge.

Friends say she has done a lot for Albany and they want help her battle cancer by putting on the event.  They will have several different musical acts performing along with dozens of items for their silent auction.

It starts Saturday from 6-12pm at State Theater in Albany, tickets are $10. All funds will go directly to Rehberg to help pay for hospital bills and her surgery at the end of the month.
