The Atlanta Falcons and a non-profit organization are giving Albany's disadvantaged youth some new sports equipment.

The Albany Recreation and Parks Department is getting dozens of helmets, uniform, softballs and other equipment for their Special Olympics teams.

The donations from Good Sports, Incorporated and the Falcons must first be approved by city commissioners.

"We only have so much budgeted money," said Derrell Smith, Parks & Recreations Interim Director.  "Things are tight right now for everybody, especially for some of our recreation programs.  And this may be equipment we may not have been able to get had it not been donated."

Smith said the equipment would be enough to serve a couple teams.  He expects commissioners to give the green light at their next meeting.
