ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A basketball star from South Georgia remains in Ukraine, where tensions are high after Russia's military invasion.

Deerfield-Windsor graduate Andre Young plays for Hoverla in the Ukrainian SuperLeague.

Hoverla is in eastern Ukraine, not close to the flash point of Crimea, and about an 8-hour drive from the capital of Kiev which was rocked by violent demonstrations last week.

Young's father, Colie, says his son feels safe where he is. "My thoughts are mixed.  You know anytime you have a child, in particular overseas where there's unrest, there's grave concern. I have strong faith in the Lord so the concern is not as bad."

This the Clemson alum's second professional basketball season in Europe.

Young says about 70% of Americans in the Ukrainian league have left the country, but most of the Americans on his son's team have not.
