BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

As residents start to receive refunds from their 2013 income taxes, some Beaufort County residents may notice funds deducted for services rendered or taxes never paid to Beaufort County Government.

The Setoff DebtCollection Act, Title 12-56-62 of the South Carolina Code, enables governmententities to collect monies from residents' state income tax refund. Noticesregarding these potential reductions have been previously mailed to taxpayersas required by South Carolina law.

Beaufort County departments that use this type of monetary collection for unpaid billsor taxes include: Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the Clerk of Court'soffice, Magistrate Court and the Treasurer's office.
