Paws and Pets set to board hundreds in Bainbridge

BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) -

More than 30 dogs will board planes on Saturday in south Georgia and head to happier lives.

Whether it's a big bark or a little one  dogs are gearing up for the flight of their lives.

"Tomorrow is a busy day we've got 33 dogs that are going out but there's a total of 250 going out," said Beth Eck with the Bainbridge- Decatur County Humane Society.

Pilots and Paws is a rescue mission dedicated to giving animals a second chance at life about 22 pilots will be donating their time to the cause on Saturday.

"We've done this for five years but we've never done it with other groups like this, so we're excited because all of these rescues from Alabama, Florida, and our shelter will all meet at our airport," said Eck.

Thanks to the new partnership dogs will board those planes and head off to a new home tomorrow.

It's taken more than a little time to prepare for the event calculating the weight, getting crates for the planes and just getting the pets ready for their new start.

"Some will be going to other shelters, but mostly into foster homes, there are a few that are already spoken for," said Eck.

While many will go up up and away on Saturday the mission of rescuing pets and delivering them to great homes remains intact at the main office Alyssa and William just made the decision to rescue a pet.

"We both adopted dogs growing up from shelters, our family dogs were both adopted, it felt like the right thing to do, we loved the opportunity, to give a dog a second chance, to rescue it, these are the dogs that really deserve it," said the couple.

The sky is the limit for these dogs on their way to a brighter day.
