Georgia's U.S. Senators make a stop in South Georgia

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Georgia's U.S. Senators say they're working hard to minimize the impact of military spending cuts on Moody Air Force Base.

Senators Johnny Isackson and Saxby Chambliss met with the Secretary of the Air Force at Moody Air Force Base to discuss the Pentagon's proposal to cut the A-10 program.

One A-10 wing is stationed at Moody.

"Senator Chambliss and I came here today to meet with the Secretary of the Air Force at Moody Air Force Base," said Senator Johnny Isackson. "There's been a proposal to end the A-10 program that has a large deployment at Moody. We want to make sure it stays at Moody."

"My goal is to ultimately have the F-35 come to Moody," explained Senator Saxby Chambliss." "It's a perfect fit and we just hope that at the end of the day that's the direction which the Pentagon decides to go."

After their meeting at Moody...the senators talked with constituents at a town hall meeting at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College.

    Students in Dougherty County will have their state testing a bit later this year.  After seeing how many days students missed in January, the state is allowing them to take the test one week later.  Students will take their Georgia Milestones the week of April 24th.
