LOWNDES CO., GA (WALB) -
Saturday morning, elementary, middle, and high school students from across South Georgia filed in to the Pine Grove Middle School gym, aiming to qualify for the state archery tournament.
More than 350 kids were expected to compete at this regional tournament.
"It's the South Georgia Regional Tournament. Those that qualify will move on to the state tournament in Perry," explained Steve Holley, Pine Grove Middle School Athletic Director. "Archery has really caught fire in this area. We have about 360 kids preparing to shoot this weekend. It is the largest tournament in the state of Georgia this year."
Hahira Middle School seventh grader Alex Kebler was one of the students at the tournament hoping to qualify for state.
"[I'm] pretty excited," said Kebler. "State's pretty hard to qualify though."
"Probably the pressure," Kebler responded when asked what the hardest part of the tournament was.
