CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Aformer Savannah-Chatham Metro Police detective was booked in the Chatham Countyjail on Friday.

TrinaKatrice Mayes was indicted Wednesday by a Chatham County grand jury on seven counts ofmaking a false statement. She was booked under her maiden name Williams.

Thegrand jury returned a true bill on the charges Mayes made false statements toinvestigators during the probe into allegations of corruption and misconductwithin the department.

Theallegations surround her alleged involvement with convicted felon WilliamLamont "Rocky" Sellers, as well as making false statements to ChiefJulie Tolbert and City Manager Stephanie Cutter in an appeal hearing to try andkeep her job.

Mayes'criminal defense attorney Richard Darden said in a statement, "Theseallegations were fully investigated in 2007 and there was no evidence ofwrongdoing on the part of my client. We will vigorously defend the case beforea jury of her peers and I am confident they will agree my client is innocent ofthese charges."

Mayes'attorney in civil matters, Will Claiborne, said this is another example of theretaliation they are claiming against the city.
