ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A South Georgia man says bats have invaded his home, and he doesn't know what to do about it. Dennis Barron says over the past three weeks several thousand bats have a made a home in his home, coming and going through a hole in his roof.

We didn't see any while we were there Wednesday night, but Barron says the bats are stinking up his house and creating a health hazard for his wife who has a serious medical condition.

The DNR says bats generally aren't dangerous, but they are protected by law. You can't kill them, so you need a professional to take care of an infestation.

"They live up in my roof, my attic part, and when it gets dark they come out in droves," said Dennis Barron.

"If someone has problems with bats in their house, best thing to do is to call an exterminator," said Drew Zellner, biologist.

Barron says he did what the DNR recommends and called an exterminator, but he says he can't afford their services.
