ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A new state law will make it a little easier to pay your property taxes this year.

Legislators unanimously passed an option that allows taxpayers to receive electronic bills.

The Dougherty County Tax Director says the law will reduce operating costs and make paying taxes more convenient.

"It would definitely save on postage because, you know, if you're doing everything electronically you're spending the money on the postage as well as printing the paper and costs that involves mailing out the tax bills," said Tax Director  Shonna Colley.

Colley says the new law will improve efficiency in tax offices.

You need to opt-in to the new system, so if you can keep getting paper bills and notifications if that's what you prefer.
