MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Alabama won the Max Capital City Classic 4-3 Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

The 6th annual matchup was delayed one day due to rain.

This is the first win for the Tide in the Capital City Classic. The Tide is now 1-5 against Auburn at Riverwalk.

The game was scoreless through two and a half innings until Auburn's Dan Glevenyak knocked one out of the park to make it 2-0 in the bottom of the third. Alabama quickly responded in the top of the fourth on a Casey Hughston RBI single followed by a Will Haynie RBI base hit, making it a tie ball game at 2-2. The Crimson Tide had a chance to pad the lead with the bases loaded in the fourth, but left all three runners stranded.

The Tigers broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth after Blake Austin knocked in Dan Glevenyak on a RBI single. The Crimson Tide came right back however and tied it 3-3 after Mikey White brings in Will Haynie in the top of the seventh.

In the top of ninth Alabama's Georgie Salem scored on an Auburn throwing error, making it 4-3 Tide.

"I thought it was a good baseball game," said Auburn coach Sunny Golloway. "Clearly there were some mistakes made, but you're talking about the 11th and 12th game for both participating teams. From our side, I see us getting better. I see us being more consistent. I thought we defended pretty well. We had a costly mistake there at the end. But I thought we competed really well."

The early season rivalry game was the first SEC game for both teams. This was the 237 all-time meeting between the Auburn and Alabama baseball teams.

The Crimson Tide returns to Sewell-Thomas this weekend when they host the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils in a three-game series. The series will start on Friday night with first pitch slated for 6 p.m. CT. Game two is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT on Saturday and the series wraps up on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.

Auburn will play its final non-conference weekend series this week as Mercer visits Plainsman Park for a three-game set. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
